The rite of Confirmation is a way to say "YES!" to God. In Baptism, parents or sponsors declare what God has already done for the recipient (often an infant). In Confirmation, the recipient claims God's actions for themselves, often with public statements of faith.

Confirmation instruction provides understanding to your faith, but it is not necessary in order to receive the salvation Christ provides through his death and resurrection. As we love to say, there is nothing you can do to make God love you any more, and there is nothing you can do to make God love you any less! This in an opportunity to be more intentional about the confirmands participation in Christian community. Historically, this has been around 7th and 8th grade.

Different families have different educational hopes. St. John has educational hopes (as outlined in our constitution). In line with Lutheran tradition, we believe 'a knowledge of facts will not save you,' but trust in what God has already done in Jesus will.

Since it is a more formal training, Confirmation is historically 2 years worth of preparation.

Thank you for your interest! And blessings as you discern when you or your loved ones feel called to observe this rite!
